El Cortez Restaurant & Lounge Inc in Country Club Hills

I have celebrated every single important event at El Cortez for 25 years. This is my favorite restaurant on the face of the planet. I want to fill a bathtub with their salsa. I moved to Florida and I literally fill half a suitcase of frozen mini burritos when I come back to visit, and ration them like there’s a famine.

Oh my God, stop reading this review and go there. The tacos are incredible and the salsa (if you ask for hot) is FIRE. I make a trip down there from the north suburbs for business and bring a dozen tacos home. No lie.Why are you still reading this, go there now. And bring me some tacos.

Best Mexican food! Authentic delicious food with low prices! Highly recommend!

Mom and I went at her suggestion. Found the food a little lacking. Mom had pablano peppers, I hab tamales, too much cheese. The onlyredeeming facktor was the waitress. Hard to understand but very friendly.

The food is always well prepared and flavorful, employees provides fantastic customer service. I liked the cleanliness and ambience. Will come visit again.

I had a Strawberry margarita with house tequila it was very bitter tasted like grapefruit but bartender advised me that they use real strawberries which this batch wasnt sweet at all. I had the steak taco dinner the steak me was rubbery w/ no flavor my daughter steak burrito wasn't so tasty either but my pastor taco was GREAT.. THIS was my 1st time here but I would try again

I visit this outstanding place often because I like the good mood that is outline this restaurant. The personel is highly loving and skilfull. The service is extremely rapid. Most important, the food you eat is perfect. I came often and I was never disappointed. The payment is honest. I highly recommend this place to my friends and family.

The love I have for this restaurant is truly indescribable. I’ve been coming here for a long long time and I’m never disappointed. We always have great service and everyone is so kind and welcoming. They have adjusted so while to Covid-19 and you can really tell they have great management. Lastly, my family really appreciates the fresh chips and salsa we get with our order!

Not only was my food extremely soggy and disgusting, they charged me for a horchata when apparently they are no longer selling it. I eat tacos all the time but what I received was something else....they are slightly more expensive then other near by Mexican restaurants as well. Save your time and go to burrito express or whatta taco.

El Cortez is my go to Mexican restaurant in the area. My family and I have been coming here for decades. I've tried other places, but always come back to El Cortez. The chips and salsa are the best. I don't know what they do, but they are awesome every time. You can tell the salsa is made fresh as there are some variences in the spice level depending on the day. Always delicious though. The fajitas and enchiladas are my top dishes, and they have many other wonderful options. The portions are good in size for the price point. I always have leftovers.

Usually always very good but definitely had a off day this time. My bistec Mexicana was tasteless and i barely touched it and my sombaro taco which usually are amazing was burnt. O well I guess everyone has a off day I'll still come here again

Went to have a nice meal & one of El Cotez's GREAT Margaritas last week. The food was very good. Server was good but we did notice the mask he was wearing was below his nose. We sat outside (of course) inside is closed. It was clean but while we were there I saw the server just barely wiping the table & brushed over the chair. Which was a little concerning but the worse part is the bathrooms!! As soon as you opened the door to the restaurant it smelled like an out house. The towels were all over the floor. 1 stall was locked & the sink was also full of towels & soap spilled all over the counter. But the smell was HORRIBLE!! My husband also used the mens room & he said it was so bad we couldn't tell which bathroom it was coming from. Unfortunately, no one was around to complain but the smell was hard to miss. I am sorry to say we will not be back for a long time. I will miss those margaritas.

This place is great! Reasonable prices, large dishes and the staff members are constantly very kind.

What I had was good a combo plate. Fried ice cream was good.

This is the worse Mexican food, better yet food I ever had. I tried beef, steak, chicken, staff was not really helpful or accommodating. My friends didn't even want to try anything else.I hated to have to ask to try something else, but I wanted to give it chance, it's been around so long. I really can't believe this place has been around as long as it has. I will say this they have some loyal customers, but I will NEVER return.

We came to this spot for dinner. This spot was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was very successful. The staff members were very polite and we had an excellent feeling. The meal was fresh and delicious. We loved this place a lot and we will definitely return to this restaurant. Keep it up.

Drinks and food were okay, nothing worth bragging about!

Prices were fair. Food looked good but was plain & bland. All of our margaritas were made horribly and had to be remade but the next bartender that came on shift. The place was clean and we'll kept. Our waiter was ok but he could've been better. They give you a small basket of chips and salsa no matter the group the size. We asked for additional chips and salsa (which we would be cahrhed for) that was never brought out. Our food came and then waiter asked if I still wanted the chips...uhmm, No.
